Finally, someone in the mainstream press gets it right

I’m in shock, people.

Finally, a writer that isn’t a soap insider wrote about an actor on a soap with the right balance of humor and humanity.

There was nary a mention of the things that writers usually say to demean or ridicule soaps. No condescension, no judgment, just a beautiful story, told beautifully by writer David Kushner.

The article (a longform Buzzfeed piece) is about Guiding Light’s Jordan Clarke, who played Billy Lewis for over two decades (and another role during an earlier GL stint).

I met Clarke during my GL visit years ago, and the humble figure Kushner describes here matches my impression of him — he was so very different from the blustery Billy, so reserved. It made his accomplished performance as Billy all the more amazing.

I can’t say enough good things about this piece. Just read it already.
