NBC announced today that the long-running original Law & Order drama would end its 20-year run this spring.
This might seem rather unrelated to soaps, but it’s a reminder of how absolutely BRUTAL the last year has been for anyone in the NYC area who lives and works in television.
I mean, let’s remember the shows that have been cancelled or have moved production in the last year: Guiding Light, As The World Turns, All My Children, Ugly Betty and now Law & Order.
I’ve mentioned several times before that with digital filming and smaller budgets, I’d love to see productions take root outside of NYC and LA. But if anything, the shrinking nature of traditional TV means everything is consolidating to Hollywood.
