According to TVWeek, Guiding Light was canceled to…….
……make way for a relaunch of The $25,000 Pyramid.
*blink*
Nothing like kickin’ a fan when they’re down, eh?

Are you kidding me?!?!?
If this is a double delete this one…
GL still airs in the afternoon in my area. At one point, they had a syndicated game show hour on prior to The Price is Right. Perhaps CBS felt that having another game show along with TPIR would help them. I wish my brain didn’t go there, but that may be their logic.
Game shows have actually been a much-missed part of the daytime landscape. But a game show like Pyramid will not flourish at 9 am or 10 am or 3 pm.
In an ideal world, there would be room for both of these genres, and others too.
My sympathies go out to you, and other GL fans, for this sad news. “Losing our show” will happen to all of us, if that brings any “comfort”…but this is a real end to an era.
Mark, I’m not anti-game show, or even anti-reboot (a 21st-century version of Match Game would be amazing) and that article is only speculation. But it stings that CBS isn’t trying to come up with something more compelling – like maybe its own version of The View?
